Download the video overview from http://facegen.com/

PS: I have no connection to the software manufacture.

That looks pretty cool. I wonder if teh 3d models actually look like the person or if its just a skin thats applied.

The video download overview is quite clear about the capacity and functionality of the software. It sure looks like it will take a single photo and turn it into a 3D model (but without hair). The controls for manipulating the face are quite extensive ranging from changing the age of the face to changing the ****** and ethnicity. The downloadable overview video (23 megs) is available from http://facegen.com/video.htm

By the way, there is a fully functional trial demo. If any of you try it please report back. I am too new at this "stuff" to be experimenting with other software programs. ArtCAM is just about all I care to tackle just now so I will not be trying FaceGen for the time being. The demo is available at http://facegen.com/downloads.htm and http://facegen.com/demos.htm

Wow, and I thought you had used ArtCAMs face function.

Is the FaceGen software common knowledge around here? There has been a number of threads on faces and it had not been mentioned. It sure looks amazing to me. I had been under the impression that views other than profiles were not possible with just 1 photo.

Brad, how is the program to work with and is there any issues with getting the models into ArtCAM (as in for example poser images needing smoothing etc)? Also, it looks simple to use from the video demo, how is the learning curve?

There is a downloadable demo program that works simply and easily but no saving allowed. My vote is that it really works and there is also a sample 3ds file of a face that you can play with, it is useable in artcam. It took a little fooling with but I cut it today.
I want it.

I bought it a while ago and I *think* that it was around $500. If you are crafty enough, you can take the head generated in FG and put it on a model in Poser. When I bought, they were using the 'PhotoFit' service, which required you to send your photots to an automated server. The new version apparently does all of this on your PC.

The 3D mesh is pretty good, but it does need some smoothing & hair is non-existent...you basically get a skull and facial features...which is fine, because everything else can be done in Pro.

Thanks for the reply Brady, sounds like an excellent tool for the toolbox. Once I get more proficient with ArtCAM I will add FaceGen.
